“corde vocali” is born from the encounter between giada forte and pauline guerrier, to explore the human identity in its genesis. inspired by anatomy charts of vocal cords sketched by pauline guerrier, the artist and giada forte depict the phonation organ in their respective art forms. the voice’s evocative and symbolic power is part of our identity. it pictures our soul and conveys our emotions. this collaboration shakes our own personal view and perception of a person beyond the physical and obvious appearance. giada and pauline take a special glimpse at life. through their artistic and symbolic aspirations they raise the question of identity in its more intimate forms: body and voice.

pauline guerrier’s meditative approach constantly questions the subjects of identity, body and spirit. her creations focus on the relationship between humans and time, space and origin.

“make the invisible visible». the corde vocali frescoes, entirely handmade, at test to the quasi–scientific study of the physiology of the larynx. the different pieces in the exhibit reveal a three–dimensional approach magnifying resonant cavities, the ripples and shapes of this otherwise highly complex par t of the body.

pauline guerrier’s meditative approach constantly questions the subjects of identity, body and spirit. her creations focus on the human relationship between time, space and origin. “make the invisible visible”. the corde vocali frescoes, entirely hand–made, attest to the quasi scientific study of the physiology of the larynx. the different pieces reveal a three–dimensional approach magnifying resonant cavities, the ripples and shapes of this otherwise highly complex part of the body. pauline carefully selects, uses and interprets fabrics from forte_forte archive. raw and rigid, as well as silky and delicate materials illustrate the tissues that define our anatomy. she has a sharp yet tender look, which echoes the vocal vibrations revealing the mysteries. her work is presented in the form of panels between decorations and abstract landscape paintings with curves and lines which also represent the voice, sound, nature and life. the 14 canvases represent 3 scenes: birth, voice change, acceptance. first, 2 meter high canvases are followed by several panels to create frescoes up to 5 meters wide for some and 4 meters high for others. each strip of fabric is carefully torn, then meticulously pleated and assembled in layers to become so many vanishing points that run through the monumental friezes, as subtle drawings of the roughness and beauty of the vocal cords.

giada forte creates a collection mixing feminine and masculine stereotypes, extending the body to the limits of both identities as an intimate, sensual sphere. the corde vocali capsule consists of 14 pieces that enhance and repurpose iconic men’s and women’s wardrobe. the garments are deconstructed and reassembled: the inside comes out, the invisible is revealed, hints of imperfect artisanal finishes reflect humanity. jacquards are woven in linen, rustically spun cotton canvas, silk organza, crisp poplin... many different, authentic natural materials. in transparency, fabric fibres are layered on the skin, living life to shapes while matter comes alive. the men’s trench coat is like an allegorical piece made of linen and silk, with unstructured shoulders, dressed in transparent organza sleeves.

the use of mixed fabrics escapes all classifications, delicacy is opposed to robustness. colors such as midnight blue and black contrast with feminine notes such as cipria and ecru. iridescent shimmers can be seen when prints and embroidered arabesques tell the movement of pauline’s works. a visual symphony that exalts a form of freedom and suggests the respect and elegance for neither a male nor female gender.

within a space shaped by artworks and clothes, erwin aros combines voice with visual experience; it is an invitation to explore the personal identity. the performance – planned as an initiatory journey, will consist of 3 parts taken from 3 works: “humana fragilità” by monteverdi, “tis nature’s voice” by henry purcell and “la barcheta” by reynaldo hahn. accompanied by a piano, erwin aros will arrange the 3 arias as one, offering contemplative music where the voice (countertenor) is high pitched in the treble, as if it were suspended. the sound experience is a mise en abyme that links to each element of the exhibition. thus, the recital goes deep by using classic codes to explore contemporary subjects.
